About Springfest 2012, Growing Together

The entire Blessed Sacrament community is excited for Springfest 2012, Growing Together! This year’s theme represents our desire to watch our children and school grow to their fullest potential. Our responsibilities as parents, educators, and community members are to provide the necessary components for this to occur. Tuition fees cannot do it alone. Blessed Sacrament relies on the money raised from this annual gala. In past years, Springfest has raised over $50,000; all of which has gone to help our school community. Most importantly, the money assures that our children have the tools necessary to grow to their fullest potential.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday, April 28th at the Marriot City Center in Salt Lake City.

Community of Caring Quilt – Auction Item for Springfest 2012!

The Community of Caring quilt is a masterpiece created by the entire student body at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School during art class. The project was a cross curriculum exercise with visual art and our Character Education program in partnership with the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Center for Community of Caring.

Students PK - 3rd Grade each created a quilt square with their name and handprint.  Our PK students also wrote their favorite core value - caring, sharing, family, respect, and responsibility on their square.

Students 4th -8th Grades focused on their family and heritage, and diversity at Blessed Sacrament School.  Our school is a We teach “Unity in Diversity,” with a diverse group of students:

·         76% Caucasian and 24% Ethnically Diverse
·         75% Catholic and 25% Religiously Diverse

This diversity and respect for each other can be seen in the individual quilt squares. We teach our students to respect others, but first they have to learn to respect themselves. Part of respecting themselves is learning to be proud of who they are, and sharing their heritage with others with pride.

The quilt also includes 8 religious symbols reinforcing faith formation.

The quilt size is approximately 10’ x 12’ and is totally hand-sewn and hand-tied by Celestina Tazzer, an alumni grandparent, classes of 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2005.

This quilt is truly an heirloom to be treasured forever.
